Bike Park Rules/Etiquette and Safety Guide

    • When Hilltop is closed all bike trails are closed.  We work hard to keep the trails in great shape.  Please respect that work by not riding during nonoperating hours.

    • All users must have a valid bike park pass and have signed the waiver.

    • Please respect ski area boundaries and all closed signs.  The chairlift is not to be used as an access point for the single-track trails that surround Hilltop’s lease area.

    • The pump track is free to use, and no waiver is required.  All users of the pump track use it at their own risk.  Hilltop is not responsible for injuries sustained on the pump track.

    • No motorized vehicles are permitted beyond the parking lot.

    • No unauthorized carrying of firearms or concealed weapons.

    • No smoking, vaping, alcohol, or illicit drug use.

    • Please help keep your park clean. Please place all litter in trash/recycling receptacles.

    • Please respect the native vegetation and wildlife.

    • To reduce potential safety conflicts with bikers, dogs are prohibited at Hilltop while the bike park is in operation.

    • Improper conduct may result in a citation, suspension, or expulsion from the bike park.

    • Special events or programing require advance permit from Hilltop.

    • Uphill access to the bike park is restricted to the access road. All uphill riders must have a pedal pass, sign a liability waiver and be familiar with the appropriate two-way trails before riding. Failure to sign a waiver and purchase a pedal pass will result in trespassing on Hilltop property

    • Helmets are required.  Full Face helmets are encouraged.  A properly fitting CPSC rated helmet is highly recommended for everyone.  A snug fitting, full-face helmet is strongly encouraged when jumping.  You only get one brain – protect it.

    • Bicycles should be in good working order. Riding a bike at the bike park that is in poor condition or improperly assembled is dangerous.  Visit your local bike shop for a safety check and get your bike(s) tuned by a professional mechanic regularly.

    • Lower Your Saddle for improved bike handling on jumps and pump tracks.

    • Look Before You Leap. Natural and man-made terrain can change due to weather, use and maintenance daily.  Do not ride or jump blindly!  Follow the saying Pre-Ride, Re-Ride, Free-Ride.

    • Ride Safely Within Your Ability. Many of the routes through the park require advanced mountain bike and freestyle skills, including jumping. Do not attempt to ride any feature unless you have sufficient ability and experience. The skill level required for the various park features are identified on the map. We recommend starting on (insert family trail name) to warm up.

    • Ride Progressively. Start small and work your way up to more advanced features as your skills develop.

    • Protective Gear Is Highly Recommended. In addition to a helmet, wearing gloves, shin, knee, elbow pads, body armor, and in some cases a neck brace is a good idea – especially when jumping.  Your body will thank you.

    • Slippery When Wet. Pump tracks, wood features and rocks are slippery when wet.  Use extreme caution.

    • When Hilltop is open for bike operations hikers must us the designated hiking trail.  When bike operations are closed, the hill is open to hiking but hikers must stay off bike trails at all times.

    • Bike trails are for bikes only. No walking/hiking allowed.

    • Hike/Jog at your own risk.

    • Be aware of your surroundings. Other bike park users may be moving quickly.

    • Do not block or obstruct the bike park trails/features. Do not stand or sit in blind areas.

    • Parents/Guardians, please watch your young children carefully and stay with them at all times.

    • Children require adult supervision.

    • Stay in control and ride within your ability at all times. Be aware of your surroundings and other park visitors.  Adjust your speed when the park is busy.

    • Be courteous and share park with other users.

    • Take turns and keep a safe distance between you and the rider in front of you. Clear landing areas quickly.

    • Riders yield to pedestrians and uphill traffic.

    • Ride jump lines in one direction, one line at a time.

    • If you stop for any reason, please move off to the side of the trail.

    • PLEASE do not use the dirt trails or dirt features when they are wet or muddy. If mud is sticking to your tires/shoes or you are creating ruts/footprints, then it is too wet to use.

    • Obey bike park trail and feature closures.

    • Stay on defined bike trail surfaces and do not “free ride” into the landscape.  Ski trails are closed to bikes.

    • Do not modify trails or features.

    • We work hard to keep the trails in great shape please no skidding or other riding maneuvers that cause damage to features.

  • Protecting from the elements or potential injuries with the following recommended protective equipment can ensure that weather, obstacles or crashes don’t force your day to end early. A helmet is mandatory for every rider; additional protective gear is strongly recommended.

Protective gear including full face helmets are available at the rental shop in the chalet or the retail shop.

HELMET (MANDATORY): All riders must wear a helmet in the bike park. We strongly recommend a full-face helmet to provide greater head protection.

GOGGLES OR EYEWEAR: Wrap-around goggles/eyewear are the best choice for eye protection against dirt, branches, and other objects you’ll encounter on the trail or in a fall.

BODY ARMOR: Upper body Armor wraps your chest, ribs, spine, torso, shoulders and arms in hard-shell pads to minimize impact and injuries in a crash

LONG SLEEVES: Long-sleeved shirts and pants add a thin but crucial barrier against skin abrasions

ELBOW PADS: Hard-shell elbow pads protect one of the most sensitive parts of your arm.

GLOVES: Full-finger gloves provide better bike control and offer protection from blisters and weather

KNEE PADS OR SHIN GUARDS: Protect your knees and shins from impact with hard-shell pads and guards

CLOSED-TOE SHOES: Shoes with a durable toe box prevent injuries if your feet get jammed on a rock or roots.
